Most of the time my inbox is flooded with junk. Yes, I have a spam filter... and yes, it's turned on. But for some reason, pointless forwards and annoying ads still seem to find their way in. I suppose it's mostly my fault. I do sign up and subscribe to a lot of different things. But every now and then something noteworthy, something forward-worthy graces my inbox. Awhile back I signed up for daily devotions/quotes from Brennan Manning. I would like to share one that came to inbox recently. It's an excerpt from his latest book, The Furious Longing of God. The quote is beautiful and speaks for itself. It's a powerful reminder of what it means to be a follower of Christ. I hope you find as much inspiration in these words as I did...
"The gospel is absurd and the life of Jesus is meaningless unless we believe that He lived, died, and rose again with but one purpose in mind: to make us brand-new creations. Not to make people with better morals but to create a community of prophets and professional lovers, men and women who would surrender to the mystery of the fire of the Spirit that burns within, who would live in even greater fidelity to the omnipresent Word of God, who would enter into the center of it all, the very heart and mystery of Christ, into the center of the flame that consumes, purifies, and sets everything aglow with peace, joy, boldness, and extravagant, furious love. This my friend, is what it really means to be a Christian." (Brennan Manning, The Furious Longing of God)
Happy June!
