January… the start of another new year. It’s difficult to think of New Years without thinking about resolutions. You know what I’m talking about, right? Those little promises or goals we make to ourselves each January. The ones that by February are typically long since forgotten. It’s funny how we tend to make resolutions that effect our physical health… lose weight, exercise more, eat less junk, get more sleep, etc. But how often do we make resolutions to improve our spiritual health? What if this year, along with those oh-so important (yet oh-so easy to break) resolutions, we resolved to boost our spiritual lives? Pray everyday, spend more time in the Word, come to church on a regular basis, become more active in youth group (especially the new Overflow Sr. High Ministries… a shameless plug), or simply tell a friend about Christ. I could go on, but I’m sure you get the picture. Paul made a similar resolution in his letter to the Corinthians. He said: "I resolved to know nothing... except Jesus Christ and Him crucified" (1 Cor. 2:2). Making resolutions like those (and keeping them) is not easy, I’ll admit that. But you are not alone. Just like if you were to resolve to exercise more, you’d be more prone to do so if you had a work-out partner… someone to hold you accountable. Well, luckily we have partners in this… our brothers and sisters in Christ. Together we all make up the body of Christ and when we work together, that body functions much better. This year, I challenge you to resolve to become a better Christian… not a “holier than thou” kinda thing, but a brighter light to those around you. That everyone else would see by your actions, by the way you live your life, that you are different, that you have the love of Jesus in your heart and that because of His love, you are a changed person. Happy New Year.
